Hotel Linwood 6/11 - 6/13/09

SHE SAID:

Well, it finally came time to leave LA. Honestly, it had not hit me at all that we had to leave our apartment. I was fine packing everything up and putting it on the truck. It was not until we handed our keys back that I fell apart. Luckily, our first stop was Hotel Linwood (aka my parent's house in Riverside). It was so good to be out of the craziness and actually get a few of the last minute items done. I think the folks were excited to have us stop. They even through a Laker's game party in our honor. Well, let's be honest.....it was actually to make sure I would stay a Laker's fan and not convert to a Celtic's girl. My dad & uncles have even promised to buy me courtside tickets if I would wear a Laker's jacket to a Boston game. Hmmm...I may not come out alive.

We stayed for two nights and had to get back on the road. Unfortunately, even with all of the cleaning supplies and goodies we left at their house, the car was still too full. We ended up unloading 3 boxes worth of stuff to be shipped to our good friends, Meesa & Andy, in Boston. Yikes!!!!

Leaving them too was much harder than I thought it would be. I don't think I stopped crying until after we were over the Cajon pass. Luckily, at that point, we saw sunshine for the first time in 3 weeks. I was forgetting what it looked like. I also had the ice cream in Ludlow to look forward to. After many long trips to Needles with Mom & Grandma Rosie, it became a tradition.

Needles was short but good. It was great to spend time with my Grandma Connie. Plus, Kike got to meet his cousin Spike Soto.

HE SAID:

It felt really good to get a few nights of good sleep in Hotel Linwood before embarking on this long road trip. It was nice to be able to take it easy for a day and just hang out, it really helped for the long drive ahead. After leaving Riverside, we headed to Needles to stop and say goodbye to Des' grandma.

On the way we stopped to get some ice cream and fill up on gas (the ice cream is a long standing Soto tradition as I understand it). Our stay in Needles wasn't too long, just long enough to grab lunch with Grandma Connie and stop and take pictures of Kike at Spike's house (Snoopy's cousin who's from Needles).
