New Orleans - Day 1

HE SAID:
First of all, the driving. Being on this road trip is a lot of fun and all, but the driving is killing me! I mean 8 hours in the car to every city, it's getting a little old.

Anywho, New Orleans was a bit of a disappointment for me. The place we stayed at was fine, but the area was basically a ghetto, it reminded me of South Central, but worse (if you can imagine it) Squach came out to meet us in the city and we had a lot of fun. We walked out to Frenchman St. (where the locals hang out) and had dinner at Adolfo's. Dinner was soooo delicious, I don't really remember the name of the dishes, just that they tasted yummy. Afterwards we took a walk down Bourbon St. to party. I don't do well in places with a lot of people, so it was a little overwhelming for me. We got some Big Ass Beer to walk around and ended up on a balcony on the second floor of a bar asking girls to show us some boobies (I'm including Des in this), but instead of a girl, some dude took his pants off and decided to show himself to the world, I'm a little bit traumatized.

After going up a down Bourbon St., we all headed back to the hotel (it was 2 AM) for some much needed rest and to get away from the heat and humidity. We've been talking about taking a swamp boat tour, we'll see what happens tomorrow.

SHE SAID:
We were so happy to finally get to the hotel. It was absolutely adorable. So much character. It looked exactly like a place in New Orleans. I was a little worried about how Sam would feel, but figured it would be good for him. As a bed & breakfast, it was definitely not the type of place he has normally stayed. Once he did arrive, we sat in the courtyard and caught up. It was great to have a friend meet up with us. Not that I don't like Mario. It is always nice though to have friends in the mix. For some reason, it made the trip seem more real.

That night we went to Bourbon St. On the way, we stopped for dinner at Rudolphos, an Italian Creole restaurant. We found the place through a recommendation of definite locals. We had run into a group gathering for a funeral march. Promising to join them later, we rushed to the restaurant and were greeted with a fantastic meal. The highlight was grouper in ocean sauce- essentially it grouper covered in crawfish, shrimp, and crab cream sauces. OH MY GOD! We also had cannelloni with crab and corn. The whole meal was great. Great recommendation.

While waiting for dinner, we were sent to the adjoining bar to wait. More and more on this trip, I realize how little character Los Angeles has. The bar was so quaint and full of personality... kind of like the Drawing Room with New Orleans flare. Here, we tried the local beer, Abita. Not too shabby. After dinner, we ran into the funeral march and were able to dance and march along side them.

Off to Bourbon St. we went. It was indeed very dirty. But to be honest, it didn't really bother me. I've been to frat houses that were dirtier. In fact, most of the parties in college probably happened in dirtier places than Bourbon St. What did bother me is that people didn't abide by the golden rule- you have to show something to receive beads. Don't people know you have to give a little to get a little??? :) That being said, of course I wasn't going to flash anyone. I'm not that kind of girl. (don't you love the double standards?) By the end of the night, I did see two sets of girl's parts & one boy's parts and walked away with a ton of beads without showing a thing. :) I did meet a white trash couple that had just gotten married. The bridal party and parents were with them.... and they all were toothless. The night was complete for me when they yelled- "them are a couple of purty titties."
